Dedicated to dog rehoming for all ex-racing greyhounds

Although our team is committed to dog rehoming, finding a new family isn't always easy for the ex-racing greyhounds here at the Croftview kennels in Kent. While they may be very loving and well behaved, sometimes our special guests need a little more attention and care than the others. Every month on this page we will feature a dog that urgently needs to find its forever home.

jake

Jake is one of our long stay dogs – he has been in the kennels for 802 days already. Yes, you read that right, that’s just over 2 years! Jake is Awesome. He likes to have a variety of toys that he can both play with and destroy. He recently went on his first Riverside group walk, settled well in the car for the journey there and behaved superbly at the park. He was good around the children and enjoyed being around other dogs that were there. Jake simply appreciated being in a different location with all the new and exciting sights, sounds and smells.

Jake is such a superstar dog. Calm and relaxed at the kennels and a good walker on leash at the park, so why hasn’t he found his forever home yet?

Well, the reason is, Jake can be excitable, bouncy and over enthusiastic, a reluctant walker at times and not the greatest with younger children. Alongside these flaws, he also has an old racing injury. He retired due to a broken wrist that may or may not need pain management at some point in the future. Currently his wrist has healed and whilst no pain relief is needed at this current time, it does mean his exercise has to be restricted to ensure his personality doesn’t cause him to over-do it. He’s pretty good at self-regulating his own exercise and play in the kennel and does love a nice long afternoon snooze. With the on-going financial crisis people are reluctant to take on a dog that has an injury they can’t insure.

He’s also at that awkward age (5 years old) where he’s no longer classed as a younger dog, but he’s not old either. If you ask the kennel staff, you’ll be told that this age is great as they’re generally more settled in their personality.

Don’t let these flaws of Jake’s put you off. He’s a big cuddle monster with a cracking personality and bounds of fun ready to be had in his forever home. You will never have a boring moment sharing your life with this big lad.
